Dental Crowns

A crown is a restoration that covers, or "caps," a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth. Crowns are necessary when a tooth is significantly broken down, and a filling won't solve the problem. Also, if a tooth is cracked, a crown holds the tooth together and seals the cracks so the damage doesn't get worse. Here are some of the main advantages of a crown:

  • Covers the biting surface of the tooth protecting it from fracture when chewing

  • Seals the tooth against bacteria

  • Improves the appearance of a tooth

  • Durable restorations that last longer than fillings

Veneers

A veneer is like a crown that only covers the front surface of your tooth. It is most often used for front teeth to improve esthetics and protect the tooth surface from damage. The main advantage of veneers is that they save more of your natural tooth structure. The decision between crowns or veneers depends on how damaged the teeth are and how much protection is needed. Feel free to discuss these options with our dentists during your consultation.
